Hi, just wondering if anyone can clarify the situation regarding underground resin joint kits.
I'm in the process of connecting an existing 3 core (R,Y,B) 16mm armoured cable which (unbelievably fed a garden shed?), to a new B,B,G 3 core 16mm armoured. Iv'e just bought the house and built a workshop so armoured needed lengthening. Two questions really, firstly iv'e had two different pieces of advice, one that i should energize the cable immediately after pouring the resin and the other saying nothing about energizing, just leave cables for 2 hours before
moving them, does it just depend on which kit i use? Second question is really just asking for confirmation regarding colours. Am i correct in thinking Red/Brown-Yellow/Grey- Blue/Black. Obviously they will be marked with correct colours at terminations. Cheers all, hope this wasn't too long winded, just thought it best to give a clear picture of the situation.

RED-BROWN, YELLOW-BLACK, BLUE-GREY as said allow resin to set before moving cable, personally I let it set before energising however when they join service cables obviously they are live when the resin gets poured.Just make sure the ends are cut close on the case otherwise the resin will run out,I like to put a bit of tape around the outside as a temp to make sure.

I can understand this chap asking the second part of his question if he's never done one of these before, but what the **** is he doing asking which colour goes with what, and to answer it you are encouraging as far as I can see a non trades person to terminate a SWA WTF BTW you didn't tell him to continue the earth. He shouldn't need to ask about colour codes of a SWA of this size and amount of cores it's not as if it's a 20pair with o/s swa lol

Ment to say first part

Sorry you wouldn't get one I can assure you lol
To KAS1, which company do you work for?
I only ask to be sure that I never apply for a job there! :)

I did many years ago, then I can out of my time as they say, but I did say one part seemed a fair ask but as colour codes go give me strength, why had you not checked the cores out yourself at source ??

RED YELLOW BLUE - BROWN BLACK GREY ... i've got that ingraved into my head in a little rhyme because im sad.

As regards to the joint - whenever i do them (mainly on caravan parks for me) i always leave them 24hours before energising...i know people will rightly think its OTT, but thats how i do it.

Make sure you wear the plastic gloves provided, the resin is a complete bitch to get off when it sets. Not had it on me personally thank god, but ive ruined endless amounts of tools with the stuff.

That's why he should check the connections of the SWA at source IMO but hey who am I tell him lol

Just to recap is it a single phase or three phase supply?

also if the weather is cold the resin takes ages to set
btw-
i installed 18 at rhinefield house(lyndhurst) for lamp posts a few years back, when i finished the job the authorities told the owners to remove all of the lamp posts as they wern,t allowed
the cables still there though!
