O

OhmElectrical

Guys are any of you in and or can you recommend a good Union to join.
I just want to think and cover myself as I feel changes could be on the way and I'm not sure how I could be affected

Just what Trev said, I was a full time union rep for 6 years with Prospect the union for specialists, I am just a civil servant and the Gvt recognized several TUs. Just remember if you are already in the dodos over something and think by joining a Union you will get help, not always the case my union would not act retrospectively.

I've been a member of The Amalgamated Union Of Engineering Workers (A.U.E.W) The Technical Administartive and Supervisory Staff (T. A. S. S) and The Musicians Union. (M. U.)

The only one that was of any help to me was the M. U.!!!

Yeh taking you out on strile and making you broke.
Yes because that's all the unions have ever achieved isn't it?
None of the following is any use at all is it?
Equality legislation
H&S laws
Employee rights
NHS
Free universal education
Laws governing child labour
Formation of the political party which enacted a lot of the above
I could go on but I'd say my point has been made.

You're talking out of you're backside matey, 6 years I was a union Rep not once did I or any of my colleagues take strike action, negotiation is the byword, so perhaps you might like to think about you're statement just like the other fella.

i think the unions keep the rates low pete its well below what it should be
when i was an apprentice some of my mates went into flat roofing
i was riding a bicycle they had american cars(camaros/ mustangs, ect and fast women

They probably had more debt that you. Or richer mummy and daddy.
Suppose that'd be the fault of the TUC too

More backside chat, if you felt that way why didn't you become a flat roofer?

Lol what can the union do for me. always loved that. Then you get the usual - well they did not help when my firm put a freeze on pay. They did not act when they reduced my break times they did not act when my mother fell down the stairs....oh and they made the power go off in the 70's...gosh how did us that were barely alive in the 70's even survive this era ?
The demise of the unions has seen workers shafted left right and centre. The will of the people is now rarely implemented in the workplace...but you bet your --- the will of the boss/employer is represented.
Unions are and always were as strong as the membership. If you have a firm where 70% or more are in one union then you have strong workplace representation. Think of those "greedy" london tube drivers....Strong unions better pay and conditions....But the right wing media and all the sheep that swallow the guff they put out would rather you look at the Tube driver as overpaid and somehow unskilled ect ect...you have all read it before. Nobody seems to stop and think for a second.....IF my union was as strong and as organised as theirs then I too may have good pay and good terms and conditions......we cant all be replaced by robots.

Unfortunately a lot of this was many years ago in the 30's
But how was the nhs
And free universal education anything to do with unions
The government yes but not the unions
The question is what are unions doing now not then !
