In addition to Simon's list, also:
- types of luminaire
- circuit diagram for a discharge lamp (tube, starter, choke, power factor correction capacitor)
- understand all the lighting terms (and letters) eg luminous intensity, I, measured in candela (cd); luminous flux, F, measured in lumen (lm) etc and the "lumen method" equation
- know and understand power triangle (true, reactive and apparent power)
- screw rule; Fleming's riGht hand rule -> Generators (left = motors)
- static winding: stator (ac), field winding (dc); rotating winding: rotor (ac), armature (dc)
- electrical machines: DC motors, series, shunt, compound - diagrams, general characteristics, pros/cons, examples of where you would find/use each sort, how to reverse the direction on each sort
- AC motors, single phase: split phase, series (universal), capacitor start induction run, cap start cap run, shaded pole; again, proc/cons of each and possibly where you might find them
- AC motors, 3 phase: synchronous, induction (squirrel cage/wound rotor) - slip
- DOL starter, do you understand how it works and can you draw the schematic?
- star-delta starter, do you understand how it works and can you draw the schematic?
- other options eg auto transformer, rotor resistance, soft start, variable frequency drives
- heating: conduction, convection, radiation (how heat is transferred by each of those)
- types of space heater, types of water heater
- electronics: resistor colour codes, vague awareness of the existance of diodes, photoresistors, thermistors, transistors, variable resistors/potentiometers, triacs, and what they do
- rectifiers (half wave and especially full wave): do you understand how it works and can you draw the schematic, and the output waveforms (with and without smoothing capacitor)?
Good luck
