Has anyone heard of the Unite Certification scheme from Technical Training Solutions in partnership with Amicus the Electrical Union, are they a recognized qualification?

Unite was formed with the amalgamation of Amicus and T&GWU.

Representatives of Unite, along with representatives of the ECA form the JIB. As such, I presume you are referring to the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme which is administered by the JIB (Joint Industry Board for the Electrical Contracting Industry).

I am a member of Unite (Amicus section), but have never heard of a "Unite Certification Scheme".

R.

Technical Training Solutions are basically the lads from the old AEEU/EETPU/Amicus who ran the Union's technical training college at Cudham Hall. They are now based in Rochester and endorsed by Unite, but are now independent. They do offer the usual recognised stuff like 2391 etc, but they also specialise in proprietry / bespoke CPD courses, although I understand the way they do it means these can be mapped to external qualifications, mostly aimed at already qualified electricians and technicians in manufacturing, engineering and the like, from expereince they are well used and liked in the factories - courses include pneumatics, instrumentation, PLCs, Electricity at Work regs etc, plus they do the union electricians guide books. They are good teachers, a lot can vouch for that. But for personal certification recognised by the union and employers, you need an ECS card via JIB or SJIB in Scotland.
