Unswitched Power Socket Outlets

Can someone please clear this up for me:

Are unswitched socket outlets (power) still allowed to be used under the Regs. If yes, where and why? Is it ok when there's a fused spur attached...? I don't know.

Being told in college that they're not used anymore, but then I'm helping to fit them in new flats at the moment.

Confused. Need help.

Their use is still allowed by BS7671.
They are primarily used as single sockets for under counter kitchen appliances where there is an FCU above the counter.

Yes they're fine.
They seem to have fallen out of favour in recent years, probably partly because they're actually more expensive than switched sockets, so it's like you're getting less for more money.
