Morning guys.

I'm in the process of replacing an old re-wireable distribution board. I've checked the earth bonding and main earth and they are 6mm and 10mm.

Now am I right in that updating the earthing isn't notifiable work, but because the mains water is supply is in the kitchen, this therefore makes it notifiable? Or is it just classed as a repair and not notifiable?

Cheers

Rich

the fuse board replacement is notifiable though

Thanks, yeah I know the fuse board is, I was just wondering about the earthing. Lets say for the sake of this, that all I'm doing is updating the earthing and the water main comes into the house in the Kitchen. Would this make it notifiable?

as far as i know, it's not notifiable. take a look at NIC site. ther is a check list there telling exactly what is and isn't notifiable.

well i would up grade the earths
im sure you are ment to to conform with regs
also the tails to 25mm main earth to 16 mm bond to 10mm
what is the answer i would like to know to

Regulation 131.8 concerns the earthing and bonding arrangemnets, so any additions, alterations or new work on the installation that requires the EIC will need to upgrade the bonding.

As far as Part P is concerned the upgrading of bonding is not notifiable, wether in a kitchen or not.

As for the tails, though the OSG suggests in 2.2.3 page 17 that tails should be 25mm^ it is still really down to the size of the DNO protection device. If it is just a 60amp fuse then 16mm^ tails are acceptable, though with those you will find that the DNO would not upgrade to a 80amp or even 100amp, so that is why for future proofing most sparks will fit 25mm^

upgrading of bonding is deffo not notifiable, but upgrading main earth may be as this could affect the Ze and hence the Zs values. you thoughts on this malcolm. please.

upgrading the bonding is not notifiabe. upgrading ther main earth is notifiable. confused? you will be

I think this is a case where the individual LABC would have to be contacted for their opinion.
It could be argued that the main earth is part of single circuit (i.e. a distribution circuit) and as such repair or replacement is not notifiable.

good point spin. what you might call a grey area ( is it grey now after harmonization of colours)
