Hi everyone, this is my first post and I need some help! I have been studying for the 2330 level 2 via distance learning and have so far passed 201,202 and 203 with distinctions at Bridgwater colloge. The main problem that I have is that I cannot find anywhere to get practical experience and though I have completed the 10 week practical course, it has not prepared me for the practical exams. Does anyone have any wiring diagrams and tools/parts lists needed to pass the practical. I have asked the college but they are either on holiday or just send stuff from smartscreen. Not much help. I have the exams in 2 weeks and am panicking. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Regards,
BAM.

First thing to do is relax....

The exams aren't that bad, you install a ring main with singles in steel conduit, T&E clipped direct to the board for 1 way and 2 way lighting, a length of SWA into an isolator, some FP200 and some MIMS.

What they are looking for is that you correctly identify your switch wires, earth the metal back boxes, earth the SWA at ONE end only etc

It really isn't that bad, plus you can ask your lecturer if you're not sure.
They say you walk in there with a distinction it's just up to you to keep it.

Hope it helps;):D

The wiring diagrams should be in your course notes somewhere.

All they want is for you to draw a 1 way lighting circuit a 2 way lighting circuit and ring main. Simple stuff really! Just remember to include your CU and state what size breaker you use for the different circuits etc

Relax...............:D

I assume you have the practical assessments for 203 and 204 to come !!!! Assesment 204 involves safe isolation of a TP+N board, and two practicals that require you to measure current and voltages on already-built rigs. It is easy to do. Just take your time, and read what it asks you to do. It isn't difficult - I know. I am a lecturer for a college somewhere in the UK and have just assessed the 204 assessment for 15 students in June.

203 is also a breeze. From an isoaltor, connect a length of SWA to a CCU. Then two circuits - a ring final circuit, and a lighting circuit. Thoughout, you'll demonstrate installing PVC conduit & metal conduit - but only small amounts. Then you wire it and carry out dead tests. You have 12 hours. It takes, on average, about 4 hours to complete.

The 2 assessments that Chocolate refer to are

1) Measuring current, voltage and resistance on a circuit board. If memory serves me you have to make make a small calculation on capacitance or inductance. Then take your calculated figure from your measured figure and state why there is a difference.

2) Measure current and voltage on a 3 phase supply. It is basic the tutor stands with you and gives you hints as you go along.

You have to write a list of things used during your install like tools/parts but you can write that down as you go. If you use a hacksaw, write down hacksaw on your sheet. If you use 30 wood screws to fix your back boxes onto a wall write down 30 wood screws, write down everything.

They also ask about PPE, they write a list of body parts on a board and you have to say what PPE you would use to protect that body part. Like HEAD - HARD HAT etc. easy!!

They also ask you to mention what you have inspected on the install, things like, no damage to the cables, all conductors have been terminated correctly, there is no copper sticking out of the terminations, conductors and cpc's have been correctly identified, metal back boxes have been earthed etc.

Like I said earlier you have to draw diagrams for a 1 way light, 2 way light and ring main, my adivce do that at home before you go.

A lot of it is common sense!

Good Luck!!
