I have an electric shower and the casing is melting at the front. It seems to be the bit that may have the hot water pipe behind it. It gets very hot and untouchable when the shower is on and, has caused that bit of the case to turn yellow ish and melt inwards.

can someone tell me what this may be and if it is dangerous to use the shower.

thanks

Call an electrician out ASAP, this is a loose electrical connection that is overheating IMO.

There is no hot water pipe in an electric shower so this can not be the problem, and hot water would not melt plastic.

My advice would be not to use the shower until it is checked by a qualified person.

Regards SYKRAPS.

Could be the flow of water is being restricted by limescale. Do you live in a particularly hard water area??
The only other thing i can think of off hand is loose connection(s) of the incoming supply cable!!!

I'm sure there are others here that have far more experience with these shower units than i, so hang around and see what they have to say!! ...lol!!

It will be the notorious loose Neutral, just cannot think of anything else that would discolour and/or melt the casing

Hi-Helen,

Please Just do not turn the shower on and call an electrician immediately, do not under any circumstance attempt to use the shower!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to EF by the way.

meanwhile, i would switch off the shower circuit at the isolator, or at the CU, and pop down to boots for a few cans of that smelly spray stuff. (think it's called depongo ) while you wait for the landlady to shell out a few quid.
