I was just pondering the pro's and con's of having the 17th edition standards. It was following on from a call back for a job I quoted on. Some of the comments made by one of the competitors seem to be used more and more often.
Things like "that's illegal" "the consumer unit should be changed" "the wiring should be brown and blue, black and red needs replacing" etc. Another pet hate is the inspection frequency recommendation. That gets quoted as an absolute whenever I hear it mentioned by a customer now. 10 years for private, 5 years or change of occupancy for rental.
What happened to forming your own opinion? Is it a lack of knowledge? Lack of confidence? Not reading the recommendations properly? Trying to drum up extra work? Whatever the reasons for it, there seems to be a noticeable increase in the amount of misinformation being given to customers.
