Been asked to carry out some bathroom work including new spots, underfloor heating etc. The existing DB is an old Square D board with no rcd protection at all. Customer wont pay for a new DB, and ive priced a drop in rcbo....... £177 each. Passed this info on to the home owner, and hes complaining (surprise). He's asked me about used ones from eBay etc. Normally i would just say no but there's a few quid in the bathroom works so im trying to find asolution. So, the big question.... Used rcbo yes or no?? I did explain to the home owner that i could offer no guarantee whatsoever for the rcbo if purchased second hand.

According to the 18th Ed an rcd spur is not listed as a device for providing additional protection.
I took off the "disagree" as you are correct, they are not listed but, as has been said numerous times and from numerous scheme's advisors, they are ok for continued use.

Don't know why some people can't let this one go, have you shorted the manufacturer's stock or some such?

Thanks, that's good to know. The bulk of my work is minor additions in domestic, so RCD spurs are often convenient to use.

Ive had a recent glut of floor box additions onto busbar track systems, legrand Electrak, which are all protected upfront by MCBs with the additional protection for the sockets provided by RCD sockets in the floor box.

I did again ask the question if I'd have to put the busbars on an RCBOs and got the same answer, no so long as the circuits didn't require RCDs which they didn't.

Guess we'll have to wait for the first amendment for the black and white clarification.
