Phil, if i had 99 cores in a cable i woud get the wife to knit something for me out of it!
Ah 99 is small beer we used to join 100 pair cable when I worked at BT and that took some doing all the twists and jelly beans then heat shrink enclosure all to a diameter of about 50mm.
 
HeHe, at least ours were in control rooms.
Big mistake was getting two guys to connect an end each. It was amazing the colour combinations they got. I got lumbered with the job of sorting it out.

yes you had to watch what you were doing,I bought a tester for sorting them out if someone made a mistake.
