I had an inquiry from a small bakery last year regarding installation of a UV-C germicidal system in their packing area after a HACCP audit, .
I designed and quoted on a small air handling unit with an 800w centrif fan and a UV-C lighting box containing 8 x 30watt T8 tubes on the discharge side. The system was also designed to supply approx 20% filtered fresh air to slightly pressurize the area.
The cost of the proposed system was obviously too high and they now want to just install 4 x 30w germicidal tubes in open (undiffused) fittings around the packing area at a height of 2.3m AFFL. After a meeting with the HACCP auditors and the bakery owners during which I indicated this system probably wasn't acceptable I now need to establish if it's possible to introduce UVC lighting into a work place in levels low enough not to be a health hazard to the workers but high enough to to be germicidally effective.
I know it's a long shot but if anyone has any experience or reference material on UV-C lighting systems I'd be be very happy to hear any suggestions.
