I'm looking to get a van for work, I only want to spend around the thousand pound mark,

I've been tempted by the astra van mk g, most of the ones within budget have got 90k miles, don't know how reliable they will be at that mileage.

Any ideas? I know it would be cheaper to get a car, but I'd rather a van.

If its diesel,so long as the timing belt has been changed at the correct intervals I think it would be fine. Also I think you can claim more tax allowance for a van.

ldv pilot, ex royal mail, for ÂŁ1500 can get one with nice low mileage and looked after, for ÂŁ1000 bit more knackered, but will get you and your tools from a to b without a problem.

November 2011 I picked up an 05 plate Renault Kangoo 1.5d with side door, full service history, manufacturers receipt with the extra's added on in the factory (worth ÂŁ700 at the time) for an amazing ÂŁ1150. Ok it was just before xmas and the chap looked like he was short of cash, but this van is worth the same money now.

High mileage but with all the garage receipts in hand and all major things already taken care of I bought it and it's been perfect. Great little van for a sparky, not to be looked over when your out there looking to buy. Only bad points are that the passenger seat is not fully adjustable and it is hard (dont care, I dont sit in it lol) and the speakers are rubbish.

God luck in your search.

Renaults have appalling resale value where I am, maybe they're not so bad in the UK but you can't give them away around here. If your budget is really low have you considered a car and a trailer?

I have a VW Caddy 2001 I got for ÂŁ1500 & 90K on clock.Totally reliable and very economical.
Also an Escort 55 diesel 2000 of unknown mileage for ÂŁ695.Still a good buy and economical.

Ive just bought a citroen berlingo. You can pick decent ones up for around the ÂŁ1000 mark. The one I got rid of had 140000 on the clock and run sweet as a nut

I have a dead Renault kangoo sat on the drive. Last time i buy a french motor. Bit the bullet and replaced with a 60 plate caddy. Old vans are just more hassle than they are worth and a real false economy IMHO.
