Gonna start and get myself some stock together just basics for first as i sometimes help a mate from work with various jobs he might need a hand on. What do you guys keep in the van?

cable clips maybe 1.5m and 2.5mm?
red/brown plugs?
plasterboard driver fixings?
various ratings of connector strip?

any ideas welcome

yep really serious, i do reaise its a long shot, there is alot, however gotta start somewhere, cant really go out and spend hundreds on stock if you get ma drift.

If you can't spend much on stock then why bother?
Just get what you need when you need it.
You could start to build stock that way, say you need 15 meters of t&e go and but a 50 meter roll. What's left starts to build a bit of stock.

it all depends on the type of work you do mate. if your doing industrial all the time, you might keep m10 bolts washers and unistrut gear on the motor, along with different sizes of crimps ect and terminals for panels.
for domestic your probably looking at a set of tails and earth, maybe a CU, roll of 10mm, clips for above, few tenby clamps, stickers, pendants, sockets, backboxes, screws, plugs, 3.5mm screws, roll of 2.5, roll of 1.5, maybe roll of 6mm, sleeving. it all depends on how much gear you need, and how accessible your wholesalers are.

penny washers, 3,5,13a plug top fuses 1 1/2 wood screws orbix screws grommets grommet strip earth sleeving box of each 1g,2g sw sockets 1g 2g light switches 10a grid sw (2way) FCUs fused, neons , 20DP switches as many differing type/make/size of MCB as possible old ones as well 20mm stuffing glands bushes lockrings couplings mini trunking

Hi mate, buy yourself an organizer type box and start with the basics eg. fixings, screws, terminal strip/wagos, cable clips, washers, grommets etc (I will try to upload a picture of mine later)

In terms of back boxes, cable and other stock items, if you don't have the cash to store stock just buy them as the job dictates.

thats what i was after, the little bit and pieces you need day in day out, it wouldnt be worth me keeping a load of back boxes etc, just to use 1 now and again at a weekend job,

Screwbox full to the brim with everything from 8x1/2" - 8x4" screws, red rawlplugs, penny washers etc. A box full of clips for 1mm - 10mm T+E, 5-9 white and black round clips. Sockets, switches, FCUs, RCD FCUs, dimmers, blank plates, patrass boxes, RCDs, MCBs, galvanised back boxes. 1mm - 6mm T+E and 3 core 1mm and 1.5mm in quantities of atleast a drum of each. 10mm earth, 4mm earth, coax, 3 pair phone cable, flex from 2 to 5 cores in 0.75mm and 1.5mm 3 core all of the heatproof variety. Hanks of sleeving (brown, blue and green/yellow) plus an assortment of tape. Chemical wipes, silicon, caulking, grip fill and cable ties. A bundle of YT2 sticky back trunking and the odd length of PVC conduit with a few adapters etc. Wagos, 5A - 30A block connectors, Henley blocks, choc boxes and 20A 4 terminal + 30A 3 terminal junction boxes. Batteries AA and 9V for test meters, radios and smoke alarms. MR16, GU10, ES, BC and linear halogen lamps plus a few lamp holders.

Think that's a fairly comprehensive list of most of the stuff on the back of my van. Each year when i do my stock take i'm generally unsurprised to find that there's nearly a grands worth of kit on the van plus there's always tails, light fitting, 10mm T+E, more breakers, conduit fittings and a whole host of other left overs in the garage.
