Just had my NIC inspection today (passed) and the inspector told me that soon we will need a flow meter to prove that the flow rate of an extractor fan is what it says on the literature!

I expect next year we will need it calibrated.:banghead:

HEY T, C i got a batch of flow meters on van how many do you want lol :50:

Can't help thinking that using an anemometer for domestic bathroom fans is a bit pointless. As Tony says there's no adjustment and most are very predictable according to manufacturers specs. Also the air movement requirements for domestic bathrooms vary so greatly on a case by case basis. There's often natural ventilation in the form of air-bricks, windows etc to take into account as well, this can't be measured with an anemometer.

A must-have for an tooloholic but I'm not buying it that you would need it for domestic bathrooms.

My understanding is you only need a air flow meter for systems that are designed with mutiple inlets or outlets that you need to adjust for balancing the system. If you buy a fan from a reputable manufacturer ie Manrose who have a recognised QA or 9002 sytem in place then your are getting a certified product so back to this clown and ask this because this is another cost on to a small business plus as I have said before some of these schemie guys feel they have the power of the universe flowing through them plus airflow meters are not cheap and neither is the calibration .

Also just to highlight when you replace a faulty immersion heater control stat you are not obliged to test that it makes and makes at the desired set temperature or maybe next year this clown will advise you that you should have a calibrated temperature sensor or in the case of a humidistat fan a humidity meter so where does this end ?

Just to add that yep in a commercial / industrial situation then yes but in a domestice where you measure the room and then calculate the extract rate and then spec for a sightly bigger fan

Well yes you need to have a anemometer and should have your part F and notify your works , but you do that anyway for all your other certification, seen a lot of poor, shabby, ventilation work from electricians and plumbers that it happens to have landed in there bill so they fit it , they get a bit ****ed off then you wont sign it off because a blind chimp can install it if a little care is taken , however for a bathroom fan it is a little excessive , you'ed be surprised how easy it is to get it wrong.

That explanation would make a lot of sense and would certainly explain the new bases and new boxes, with old relabelled alarm heads. I do remember...
