Hi Guys,

Hoping someone could help. I moved in to a new property recently and after what appeared to be a power cut, my home alarm has started to beep at random times and random tunes every day.

It is a veritas R8 and it is driving me crazy. I have the engineers code, I restored the unit to default settings but still this happens.

To get around it, I have reduced the audio on the control panel pcb by turning the variable resistor so the control panel doesnt beep. My problem now is the remote LED keypad has the beeping via its on board piezzo speaker.

1) Has anyone come across this random beeping before or have suggestions as to why this is happening?

2) Does anyone know how to eliminate or reduce the volume of the remote keypad?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is very annoying and keeps waking us all up (including my newborn baby) at all times of the night.

Many thanks

Thanks for replying! The keypad has the unset led on and nothing else flashes or is lit up. That is what confuses me too, nothing aparent apart from either a maintenance reminder (but I restored to default and also did not enter a date and time so I doubt this would be it) or a battery needing to be changed but again, no LEDs showing up. Also dont think this is the chime function because when moving through the house the PIRs flash but the unit does not make noise. It's a real head scratcher ... for me at least!

I did it as the manual recommended which was to remove all power (battery & mains) and then to restore power and as the LEDs are all on, I press the RESET button.

This appeared to work fine because I initially did not have the engineers code as the previous company changed it but now all codes have changed to default.

ok sorry holding reset on power up is a hard reset...and if engineer code has reset so has the panel. If no leds are showing on the keypad, i can only suggest a replacement pcb from Texecom

Thanks again! In the mean time as a temporary measure, is there anything I can do to reduce the volume (or disable it completely) from the remote keypad? Maybe something similar to turning the variable resistor for the volume on the control panel pcb?

Sorry for sounding silly but the speaker wires from the control panel pcb dont connect to the keypad right? I only recall seeing 4 wires coming in to the keypad: + ; - ; T ; R
I dont recall seeing a VR for the keypad either - do you know where I can find a diagram for the R8 keypad? All I find online are guides for the control panel pcb but not diagrams/pinouts etc for the keypads.

the battery hasnt been changed no, but yesterday I removed the mains and left it on battery and the unit was running for at least 3 hours. I guess I could just try replacing the battery. It's just a strange way in my opinion of beeping to indicate a battery issue but you never know ...

Lead acid batteries go dry when past it...and can course shorting problems, but again you have proved it is ok by testing for 3 hours. The speaker for the main pcb is connected to 2 terminals marked LS, usually 2 white cables, disconnect 1, and the main speaker will be off. The keypad speaker you will need to check if it has a vr..
