Hi all

Been having few issues recently need to ask few questions!

I got the new Super Hub through virgin the other day... and it was ****E! Making me lag on my playstation game call of duty.. So i read up online and apparently SO SO Many people having this issue.. So then i ring them up and ask for manager.. Manager talks to me saying yeh the super hub is crap for PS3 and Xbox 360 games gives a latency so your behind every other player what ill do is send you out a router you can make the super hub a modem and connect this router and it should sort things.

So he did this, i set it up last week all has been fine! Now i been having SLOW internet again and issues.. PS3 keeps logging out etc so like you do i google it.. And apparently its the router.. the router they sent me cost like 20 quid...

I found it online Dlink DIR-615

Im gonna ring virgin and give them **** for this ****.. but i have a question!

I run my internet to my PS3 through ethernet cable... Say if i went and bought a better router would this affect me as i use Ethernet? AS in does the router actually matter if using ethernet like its hard to explain what i mean umm.. Like can it be my router giving me crap internet through ethernet OR Would every router give exactly the same conenction through ethernet?!

Sorry if that makes no sense haha

Yes, to some extent the router matters.

If latency is an issue, then spend more for a router that can deal with it - most "supplied" routers etc, from Sky, Virgin, Bt and so on are as basic as they come, using the cheapest kit they can - hence the price of "free".....

So go for a decent Cisco router, or a Netgear one - both reasonably well rated.

Have a look into 'gaming' routers. Heard they are better. I'm with virgin and never had any problems until they upgraded the line. I now have to run my ps3 through my router in DMZ settings. However, I still have lagging issues between the hours of 6pm & 10pm. As soon as I get to 10pm tho my connection becomes great again.
As a matter of interest do you notice it happens during these times or all the time?

When I worked for ntl the gaming 'router' we used to send out wasn't much more than an ethernet splitter.
I'd have thought you'd be better off using the standard modem and your own router.
