How many things can you find in this picture? Its a 6mm T&E leaving the house to fed a garage via a 2.5mm SWA. I gave up counting at 11 faults, can you list them?

[ElectriciansForums.net] Visual Fault Find # 1

OK I'll give you the first two because its not very clear in the pic.

Missing cable support (clips) on both the 2.5mm and the SWA.

line+earth polarity fault

no sleaving on cpc incoming or outgoing

copper showing on neutrel.

rubber seals not fitted, hole in back off adaptable box as well.

swa not terminated properly.

no swa gland and earthing, no cpc sleeving, conductors not identified with sleeving, conductors exposed at choc blocks, compression gland needed for t&e but personally i wouldn't use t&e outside, only 6amp connectors
hopefully thats right probably more

Well done for the replies so far. Here is my list, in no particular order.

1. Only 2 fixing screws where 4 should be use as per manufactures instructions (they all say use the pre-molded holes)

2. No capping on the 2 fixing screws.

3. Fixing screw hole needs capping. All of the above compromises the min IP4X required.

4. T&E black, copper showing.

5. T&E cpc, " " " "

6. T&E red, " " " "

7. SWA blue, " " " "

8. SWA brown, " " " "

9. T&E black, no sleeving to indicate what it is conducting.

10. T&E copper, " " " " " " " " "

11. T&E red, " " " " " " " " "

12. SWA black, " " " " " " " "

13. T&E cpc terminated to swa line conductor (if that is the live??) Change in csa and not sheathed in pvc if it is the line conductor.

14. T&E red terminated to swa black.

15. SWA not glanded therefore no proper support to the box, could become loose.

16. SWA does not have a banjo or lead to earth, steel in the SWA is not earthed (not earthed at the other end as well but only one end needs earthing).

Anything I missed?

Just to jump in, fair play to Paul, top assessment, however some of these would not necessarily be notable on a EICR, Paul has been extremely thorough and rightly so!.

Yep I've been really ---- on some points lol. Half of the faults could be resolved just by re-terminating and sleeving. Main points are that the swa steel is not earthed, T&E cpc used as the line conductor, wrong polarity.

HT you should see me on an EICR, I'm firm but fare. The above was a DIYer having a go! All ripped out and re-installed. Customer thought it was ok because it worked!!!!

1. Wrong cable sizes - they should be of the same size (current carrying capacity)
2. Twin and earth - Earth should have green/yellow sleeve
3. Twin and earth - Neutral and Line should have appropriate sleeve (blue and brown) - Not sure if we have to put sleeve with accordance with the new colours !?
4. Three core SWA - Every one of the three conductor should have appropriate sleeve to denote Line, Neutral and Earth
5. Three core SWA - Wrong/loose termination of the SWA cable .... I'm not sure I can call that termination at all
6. He could you the armour as an earth and therefore 2 core SWA ... Not sure if that counts as a fault
7. Terminal blocks should be corresponding with the current ... Not sure they look of different size
8. As far as I remember there should be no copper conductors visible

I can't get to 11 :/ ... I need to do some research..
