Hi, I am about to start my Apprenticeship this Tuesday.

I'm currently doing my level 3 c+g 2330 full time course at college.

I'm getting moved to day release (same level I imagine)

I didn't ask my future employer because I thought maybe this is cheeky, but what wages will I be looking at, do they have to pay me at all?

I'm 17 by the way but im in my Third year

Inless it's a JTL apprenticeship, they can pay you what the hell they like. I don't think theres a minimum wafe for an apprentice as such. I know some lads that started on ÂŁ60 a week.

6 shilling and 9 pence, thick ear for any back chat.

I only got 2 shilling a week:D

JIB set rates for apprentices as well.

True, but I don't know of any employers apart from JIB firms who were paying JIB Registered Apprentices on the JIB Apprenticeship Scheme the JIB rates. Of course this was illegal as they were in breach of contract let alone minimum wage.

I started my time in 1975 and got ÂŁ14.50 pw 1styear ÂŁ18.00 pw 2nd year ÂŁ26.00pw 3rd ÂŁ45.00pw 4th year so whats the big deal ? well my peer group got jobs in the local supermarket atÂŁ25pw and had a good chuckle at my wages 30 years on I now earn 2.5 times their earning.

So stick in be good at what you do take the ups and downs of being the laddie dont copy any bad behaviour and basically get on with your life or as I said to my old departed dad its not about working more hours for more money its about working less hours for more money and remember dont stop at sparking move on to alarms / BMS/controls etc in other words the more specialist you get then the less vunrable you are in the job market

It’s sad that you had to say no more money to them for them to pull their fingers out.
