Hello people. Basically i'm wanting to get the opportunity and train to become an electrical estimator in the North East but cant seem to find anyone that is willing to take on a keen and enthusiastic person with a wide knowledge in the electrical field. I'v priced work before and designed but can't for the hell of me find a company thats willing to take me on.

Would it be better to take a course (which I was advised wouldnt help to much) or should I just be persistent and contact every company in the yellow pages!

Being a fully qualified electrician I would be happy to drop on the tools when need be but ideally its the estimating side of things that I'm wanting to move into.

Anyone with any help or knows of companies that take on electricians and helps to further there career then i'd be very appreciative.

From experience, i would say most company estimators have had a pretty extensive work experience on the tools, progressing through the ranks of charge-hand, foreman, supervisor etc.. In other words these guys need to know by looking at the job what pitfalls etc are lurking that could take a big bite out of the companies arse!! ....lol!!!! That knowledge is only really gained by work experience, you can't really be taught that side of the game, even experienced estimators get burnt at times, when they estimate a job outside of there experience portfolio. ....One things for sure , you don't see many ''Young'' successful electrical estimators...

Good electrical estimators are worth there weight in gold to there companies, especially during these recession torn years, where everyone's fighting for the too few jobs/projects that are available...

you would have more of a chance if you have experience in it ie own business etc
