Hi,

I have been doing some research into becoming an electrician and found several ways...

Part P courses.. This will restrict me into doing domestic dwellings only, which isn't a huge problem but how do I go about it? I have contacted a few companies that say I could be qualified in 3 weeks!! Really??

Can anyone recommend a route/path to go down? I am 24 years old and understand that I have to pay for it. Apprenticeships are unfortunately not an option for me.

Thank you in advance

do the 3 year course at a local college ( evenings ) and try and find work as an electrician's mate to get practical experience. 3 weeks may be enough time to leasrn how to bodge copper pipes together, but no way for a spark.

Thank you tel, I thought it sounded to good to be true... There is now way in hell a normal human could learn that much in 3 1/2 weeks!

There are several college courses I have seen, 1 being a level 2 (34 weeks) and 1 being level 3 (3 years).

Can you become an electricians mate without any spark qualifications?

Would I need to complete my level 2 in order to work as an electricians mate? Then lead onto level 3?

Thanks for your help mate, really appreciate it.

Ash.

I've no idea if this is the best route mate but this is what I'm in the process of completing as I'm finding it tricky to get funding for an apprenticeship .

Level 2 - 2365
Level 3 - 2365
Part P rubbish
2394/2935 Once level 3 is done.

Then hopefully the NVQ 3 and AM2

Ah, so is that full time or part time?

Are you currently an electricians mate?

This would seem the best route for me as I will need to do it part time in between my current job.

Do you need to have at least level 2 to be an electricians mate do you know?

Thanks bud,
Ash

I work full time as a mate, and go to college 2 evenings per week where im doing my level 2&3 2365, which will be followed by my NVQ level 3 and AM2

As Tel says, nothing needed to be a mate apart from the willingness to learn, and showing the company you are worth the effort and time for them to train you up

good luck mate !

Why are you taking a building regulation exam for god's sake??

I can see a little disbelieve in your OP post, something waving red flags or showing you flashing red beacons maybe?? Perhaps that proven old saying, of If it sounds too Good to be true, then it's probably not going to be true!! And..... you'd be 100% correct too!! You'll not be competent or qualified for Jack S**t, but you will have been relieved of around £5+K by the end of that 3 weeks!!

If you can't put the time and effort in, that is going to be needed to become a qualified electrician, then best look for another trade or profession, preferably one where you'll not be putting peoples life and property at risk!!
