Evening gents (and ladies)

Recently have been made redundant so I see this as a good time to sit the 2391.

The trouble is, Iv'e noticed that the 2391 is going to be replaced by the 2394 and the 2395

Should I wait for these courses to be finalised??

each course costs the same as the 2391, effectively doubling my costs!!!

What would be the benifits of forking out the extra cash???

HELP!!!
:hanged:

I would try to do the 2391 before it changes, then you only have to pay 'half the price'. Also potential employers will have heard of the 2391 whereas the 2394 and 2395 may be "just numbers to them".

... In fact that's exactly what I did.

As you have been made redundant get job centre to pay for this go sign on and then ask about courses through rapid response

Ask about doing the 2391 takes 2 weeks to find out if your eligible for funding trough them

It's what I have done and doing mine soon but it will be the new course one of firsts to do it

Just had to buy all new regs for it so getting the 2391 for £115

Hope that helps mate

Where do you live. I deliver the 2394 and 2395 all in one course for £795 plus VAT all in. Bonus!

Cheers..........Howard

It depends where you live.
It seems up north they'll bend over backwards to help you back into work, but I was told there was no way I could get any funding for my 2382 which was about £200 because they said it was too much. I spoke to some woman on the phone who even suggested I was being selfish for taking funding from someone who might "need it more". After writing a letter to the jobcentre manager I was called and told there was only ever funding for people who had been out of work for more than 6 months continuously, and even then it was only for courses costing much less, so there would be no chance whatsoever of getting £400 or so off my local jobcentre even if it will get you back into work.

That said I've heard of jobcentres sending people on the 2391 to get them retrained as an electrician in 10 weeks when they've got no hope of passing.

I'm in a similar position to 'BMelectrics'. I passed my AM2 a few weeks ago now - BTW, what a crappy certificate you get compared the the C&G's! - and my site diary and the 2330 levels 2 & 3 are now behind me, so obviously my next step normally would be to take the 2382 (BS7671 course). The problem is, I have heard that the 2391 is being phased out in the coming months and is being replaced with the 2392, 2394, & 2395.

I'm not sure what to do: have a stab at the 2391 before it is gone, or do the 2382 and just deal with the fact that I'll have to pay for 2 or 3 testing courses in the future. In an ideal world I would like to do the 2391 before it disappears into the ether, but I've heard it has a very high fail rate and that really experienced sparks fail it. TBH, I can't really afford to gamble £500 at the moment.

Anyone have any thoughts on what I should do? I worry that if I attain the new testing qualifications employers will see them as 'watered down' qualifications not on-a-par with the 2391.
