Here is the scenario....

Rewired a house for an estate agent back in June. The house was then let out to a tenant shortly afterwards. Received a call yesterday from the estate agent saying he thinks the shower pull cord is knackered.

I normally keep a stock over christmas so I went up this morning to replace. And yes the shower pull cord was in deed knackered in that it was not switching.

So the question is, who foots the bill? Obviously the part is under warranty and will be returned once the wholesalers return from xmas, but who are you suppose to bill for fitting time?

The client will obviously question any invoice as the house was recently re-wired.

Or would you do as a gesture of goodwill?

So the question is, who foots the bill?

In this instance, that would be you.

Unless you can produce good evidence of abuse.

I provide clients with a 12 month warranty on goods supplied (because that's what I get from the wholesaler) and a two year warranty on workmanship. In both cases this is reduced to 6 months if the house is rented out.

Obviously if an item (eg showers) come with extra manufacturer warranty this is passed on.

Chalk it up to experience and next time use better quality gear!

Have to agree mate, see it as a good will gesture & hope that when the Estate agent realises your a straight trader they give you more work. Little things like that often go a long way.

yep. you have to stand the labour costs. all part of the game. only time i've ever been reimbursed for time wasted on faulty supplied gear is those electrium MCBs.

I would agree that the labour would be for your account. Part of the mark-up you put on materials during the rewire basically covers you for any warranty claims. If the customer wants cheap nasty components we charge a higher mark-up percentage to offset the higher likelyhood that we'll be back during warranty period.

I have had this issue with an alarm I installed. Replacement of faulty bits almost doubling the time of the install now and this was a perceived reliable alarm, some you win and some you loose.

Eeeerrrrr the round Crabtree ones are vile!! You have to get the cables in the right way round or your buggerd and you have to make 2 holes in the ceiling , also you have no room for cables , they have to be in perfect positions or that cover ain't goin on, we used to have to put those in for the council, we used to make the apprentice do em!!!!!
