Water has been going down from the bath into my front room ceiling. There is obviously a light there. Since this has happened the light does not work anymore. My husband said there's no current for it to work so it's basically dead. All the other light in my house work perfectly fine. It's been over a year since this happened. We have taken the light down. The wires are ganging out of the ceiling with no light. The water still occasionally leaks from the bathroom so I just use a lamp and have left that light the way it is and haven't called an electrician. I just wanted to ask if this will be dangerous for rest of the house electricity or is it fine until I decide to get it fixed. Many thanks.

This is not an ideal situation and you really need to be sure that the lighting cables are actually not connected to the lighting circuit.
If they are still connected then they may become live is something changes, such as replacing a fuse or switching the switch on.

If the cables to the light are disconnected from the supply then this is no longer dangerous.

A light does not normally become disconnected because of water, but it may blow a fuse or trip a circuit breaker or RCD.

Definatly should get that checked out by electrician. Dependant on how lighting circuit is wired, and the fact all other lights are on, you may still have live wires there. Also once sorted, you can get your living room light back on :)

You need to get your bath sorted as well. Do you know where about it is leaking from? Could just be a loose outlet that need tightening up.

Mussa- the way forward as I see it is
1) get electrician out to confirm safe isolation
2) get somebody to sort the leak
3) get sparky back to check circuit and reconnect

hope any or all of this helps

Unbelievable, ......You're actually telling us that you've had a bathroom leak for at least a year, and no ceiling light for a year!!!!

About time the pair of you pulled your fingers out and get the problems fixed. Sooner or later, you're going to end up with some serious water damage to that ceiling that's going to cost you an arm and a leg to put right, ....And you'll ''Still'' need to fix the leak and sort the ceiling light wiring out!!

Suprised it hasn't already started to warp the front room ceiling. What's the worth that can happen.... :) They can have a game of 'dodge the ceiling' as it falls down on them...
