Hi.

Currently my water supply is via a lead pipe which has an earth fixing point (boxed in so is inaccessible) just above the stop cock.
I plan to relocate where the mains water enters the house, and will be using a Philmac Universal Transition Coupling to join the existing lead pipe to new copper. This joint will be inside the house floor plan but beneath the floorboards.

Given the UTC is plastic am I ok to leave the existing earth in place or do I need to run a new earth to the block which is terminated onto the lead pipe before the UTC?

Thanks

It is strongly recommended that ALL the lead pipe is removed, right back to the water main. No one should be drinking water that has passed through lead pipes in 2025.
If you do leave the lead and do as you propose, it's very likely that the existing earth wire, if original, is far too small in cross section, and would need upgrading, but if the lead only just enters your property and will be inaccessible under fixed flooring, then I'd classify your new plastic main as not needing bonding at all.
You will need to be certain that your installation actually has an earth connection from your electricity supplier, or has an earth rod along with a RCD.
