Hi All,

Not really electrically related I know but im putting a new water mains pipe to my house and im relocating the stop tap.

Does any one know if its ok to put the stop tap next to the gas meter.

I have an understairs cupboard where my gas meter and electric meter with CU is located, I wanted to put the water stop tap in there also as this would be the easiest place (and make it easier to bond obvs).

Cheers

Quick reply thanks.

Water would not affect any other service, there's plenty of room under the floor and I have been under and located where mains Gas comes in and Electric so should be OK.

Cheers

don't be put off by the scaremongers that tell you the water might leak onto the electrics. water can come from a leak upstairs to anywhere on an electrical installation, no matter where you site equipment. common sense is the keyword. like don't run a pipe in front od electrical equipment so you can't get the cover off ( typical plumbers' trick)

or put wall units so close to an alarm panel so you cant get to the keypad....as i found the other day (typical kev kitchen trick)

Makes perfect sense to me to locate all the services together. Not just for an easy earthing arrangement, no hunting around in the future for stop taps ect.

My first house was stupid. Water at one corner, gas at another and of course electric at a third corner. Pity we didn’t have oil that could have taken the last corner.
