Came across an odd one today, a ring of 6mm (or infact just two lengths of 6mm) coming out of a 40a breaker in the cu, going upstairs to a modular enclosure and into another 40A breaker (like a fused spur I guess) and then 10mm going out to the switch and then to the shower.

Is there anything wrong with this? ~It feels wrong, but I can't find anything to say it is!

Cheers, ears!

I reckon that the installer thinks 2x 6mm cable is the same as 1 x 10mm, but could not be bothered or too stingy to pay for the 10mm !!!

What is the shower rating ??

I'm pretty sure I know why he's done it - one of the 6mm is old colours, and one is new.... obviously tried saving a few quid when upgrading the shower by leaving the old 6 mil and doing another run next to it.

The shower is 9kW.

Rocker,
Do both 6mm cables go into the other 40a breaker ??
I wonder why he would run another one again though and still leave the old coloured 6mm there asuming the old coloured was still ok to use !!???
Maybe the shower has been downgraded since to 9kw ???
Maybe Miss Marple better investigate this one !!!!

they're paralleled -cables are same size so it's prob not a hazard

dunno what the uk rules are -we don't allow it here for final circuits and conductors less than 10sq

no point to the 40amps in series

Well, they come out of a 40a fuse and go into a 40a fuse, so thats ok, as the cables are correctly rated for the fuse rating and the a single 10mm for shower supply, again rated correctly I guess as well.

Its not tidy granted, but I think it meets the regs Iz>In>Ib

it's common on larger cables -prob not desirable on final circuits

ring circuits are similar but i think they are differentiated from paralleled cables-from a rules point of view
