Hi, I was applying for >3.66Kw systems with weston power and getting a reply within a week.

I was told today they can promise a reply within 25 days!!! the jobs booked in for next week.

My LABC have also got involved with jobs now and I'm having to get a structual engineer report for them. I don't mind this beacuse I think the roof structure should be looked at first.

These two things are starting to slow things down, I'm unable to give people start dates until These things are satisfied. I'm also concerened that other local installers are not getting these things done.

Anybody else having similar problems?

You'll have to delay the job. We normally get answers within a week or so but your job can't go ahead without these things in place.

Why are LABC involved? Provided you are registered with an appropriate scheme then unless you are doing this as part of a larger job they should not know it is happening until it is done and dusted and they receive the notification from NIC/NAPIT etc?

Yes I'm registered with Napit. LABC told me that every job now has to have a building notice and a structual survey. I've had the building inspector out today to look at a truss roof we are strengthening.
They are very much involved now I'm afraid.

Perhaps I would accept that (arguably) where there is substantial strengthening work going on. But they have no jurisdiction to say they are going to get involved with every job. If you are registered through NAPIT then in simple terms you are exempt from the requirement to submit a building notice for your solar pv work.

They may be right in this case for this job, but beware what they say. Some planning depts and building control offices are frankly ignorant of or deliberately ignoring the legislation in order to line their Council's pockets and protect their own jobs.

Regards
Bruce

I think the 45 days is an obligation, we're normally with 7 days for Western Power and the quickest was about 14 hours.

Compared with 9 weeks for lastest with SP/Manweb its not doing bad. Have you emailed or posted to them? Might be worth a call see if they can help speed things up/get a name.

As per LABC - what they said!
