hi peeps,

new on here, so please bare with me while i explain. im a qualified electrician(in the sence of apprentiship completed). ive been away travelling for 2 years and now im back in blighty i need to sort out a course so im up to date to the 17th edition. the problem is i dont know what course i need to do as i dont know the numbers of the courses i did. this is what certificates i have.

My AM2 certificate awarded augest 2005

a C&G certificate that has a JIB logo at the top and an orange stripe on it. it says "National Vocational Qualification, installing and commissioning electrotechnical systems level 3" - awarded jan 2006

a C&G certificate without the JIB logo. it has a blue stripe on it. and it say " certificate of unit credit towards National Vocational Qualification, installing and commissioning electrotechnical systems level 3" and then a list of 8 units that i completed. awarded jan 2006.

plus i have various other certificates with C&G on them that are dated before jan 2006.

so i know im 16th edition, but i dont know what number the course was. i know its not 2330, 2351 rings a bell as does 2356. but ive read that 2381 is 16 edition, so does that mean im 2381. is 2381 a completed course and 2351 part of a course.

any help to clearing this up would be great thank

p.s the exam questions where multi-choice if that helps

2351 was a Level 3 Technical Certificate. As you have done this you were qualified to the 16th Edition and did not require 2381 qualification. As such you should be able to do 2382-20 (update to 17th Edition). However, despite this being the C&G advice in my case I was made to do 2382-10 (full 17th Edition course) - so it would appear that the guidance is not always known or understood by training providers.

I think this may have been because C&G's advice did not include some of these courses initially and was later changed.

2381 was the 16th ed of the regs course.

2356 is the NVQ.

2351 came after the 2360 which then became the 2330, this is the main electricians course that you study for 3 years. It must have been one of these that you studied.

The 17th ed is the 2382, it sounds like you will only need to do the update course 2381-20.
