Hi all,

I’m currently doing an electrical installation & maintenance apprenticeship (EAL) and wanted to know what additional qualifications you think would go well with it? (Heating, plastering etc) I will probably do an evening course for the second trade.

Thanks

Put all your effort in to becoming a good and knowledgeable electrician.
it is more than just a certificate that says you can do it.

a good electrician will be able to do what they have trained for.

a really good electrician will understand the principles behind the regulations and how things are working on a technical level. Further down the line if you really understand the science then you will be able to top up your skill set with more specialist work, such as but not limited to.

on site grid tied generation
solar
batttery systems
ev charging
3 phase work
automation and control gear
marine / oil and gas / other special locations.

It all depends on what you want to do as your main job...

If you are happy being a domestic sparks then simply get good at being a domestic spark, which will nowadays include stuff like, Data, smart systems, Solar , battery storage and EV charger installs etc

If you want to be an all round 'electrician' you will need to knwo your 3 phase , fire alarms , emergency lighting and much much more. This knowledge and skill can be built up over decades.
