Just wondering what everyone's doing with structural calcs? I'm pretty sure our main competition doesn't do them at all (along with SAP calcs). We've been recommending them where we think they're necessary but haven't been doing them for every job. We found early on that local guys were going to recommend work on every roof because of the professional indemnity.

Who do you use and how much is charged?

Is anyone using the NAPIT service and is it any good?

Do you include it in the quote or organise it and have the customer pay directly etc...

Any advice would be appreciated greatly.

We pay for site survey on each one, cost £195 per survey - i thought about the desktop surveys, but that requires me to make sure my measurements are correct, unlike a site visit the responsibility is on them.

We have had roughly 4 jobs fail, and in each instance it was easy to re-enforce, customer got it sorted in all cases.

We don't list the survey as an extra, its "included" in the cost, but if they decide to cancel once the survey has been completed then they will be invoiced for that amount.

We do the same as SolarCity but they are charged if they don't go ahead. It doesn't take that much longer on the survey once you've got used to it and as we're rural we can't get a structural guy to visit for less than £250. If it's a complicated roof we'll get the local guy out but usually we just go down the desktop route. It's been cheaper, quicker and the report is far more comprehensive than the one provided by our local guy.

We do them on every job though - without fail.

Cheers guys, have found someone locally who'll do a survey for £100 including site visit. Thanks for giving me an idea on prices etc. We will be doing them on all jobs from now on... both of them ;-)
