Hi,

I would like to know what cable supports you are using to meet regulation 521.11.201, as I have recently tried to get something from the local wholesalers and they have no idea what to supply.

As such, are you using AP7 Clips (P-Clips) on cables running along joists / walls / ceilings etc? When installing cables in plastic conduit (rather than trunking) are you using metal saddles rather than plastic? If so. what intervals are you installing clips / saddles (as per table D1, D3 and D4 in the OSG or every other clip / saddle etc)?

You could still clip cables along joists then screw band strapping over the lot at certain intervals. Plastic conduit wouldn't be viable containment Imo if installed in an escape route. If using plastic trunking D-line clips or Elsie clips. On tray steel cable ties at intervals. I think the reg is a little ambiguous.... would cables above a MF ceiling with plasterboard need to be supported in such a manner?

Thanks for the reply.

To clarify I meant when using PVC conduit this would be used when surface mounting is required, rather than using above a ceiling etc.

I agree that the reg is ambiguous, hence the OP, and I think that a suitable support every other space (or at metre intervals) would surfice, but not sure if other have additional information / guidance?

The only info I can find from the IET is one of their wiring matters documents, issue 54. http://electrical.------.org/wiring-matters/54/escape-routes/index.cfm

what's wrong with some scrap T/E nailed across the cables. it's got metal support!? :ciappa:

Just use pvc conduit with galv saddles.
Or trunking with d-line clips.
Job done.
You can buy galv saddles with White lsf paint for such occasions now too.

This is a wiring matters article testing “Fire performance of cable supports”. “http://electrical.------.org/wiring-matters/58/bre-report/index.cfm”.
In one test, all the metal fittings failed when fixed to a concrete lintel, where the same metal fittings fitted to a wooden lintel all remained fixed. It turns out that the metal fittings were fine, but the plastic rawl plugs supporting the fixings had melted when the concrete lintel became too hot.
I have since purchased some “DeWalt Wall-Dog Screw Anchors (https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Fixings_Index/DeWalt_Wall_Dog/index.html)” as they are meant to screw directly into a predrilled hole in concrete or brick and hold fast.
I have not had opportunity to try these concrete screws yet. Does anyone have experience of them and do people think they would have held firm in the above test?
