Did a job this week, new kitchen ring main, cooker circuit etc. Replaced db after discussing with customer. When I was testing after fitting the new board I discovered the work of a diyer in the sheds (few quite major ones)plus a couple other minor non compliances. Should I just issue an install cert for the new db and a continuation sheet with recommendations?

Issue a EIC for your works, and do not connect the sheds back up if they are dangerous, you need to chat to the customer about remedial works, if they insist you connect them back up you have a problem lol

Can't beat a damn good survey of the installation before a board swap !
As MDJ says really. How the customer reacts will be directly related to the required use of the shed circuits and the size of your extras bill for putting it right.

unlike what someone in here said they`d done...oh...just the other week..

was surprised to hear it from him actually....

The problem is what do you mean by "dangerous"?? Bare copper?

The comments section of your EIC is your place to state what you see and along with any recommendations.

Unless its a clear case of a C1 then reconnect, submit invoice and cert and walk away.

but you`d quite happily reconnect to identified 2s would you?

Yes, why not??? If it worked before and isn't low IR related then I may do - these situations are not black and white - rather very grey so it would depend on the clients reaction to what I found.

I've been been doing pre-testing for a CU change today - they have a borrowed neutral on the landing light and lack of continuity of earth on 2 upstairs sockets - I will get their approval to do these before I start!

so what about class 1 no earth related then?

just asking mind you...

edit:

OK just re-read this that you put.....agree that 2`s would have to be dealt with first...

but i refer to a recent post of yours....something to do with DIY leccy in the garage....

Well... that job isn't complete yet but judging by the clients reaction to my comments about the observations, I think it'll be an EIC with lots of comments!!

well....best of luck with that then.

I still stand by what i said at the time though on that one...i wouldn`t have connected up to it as once you do ultimately you become responsible for it....
