Right im sure this question has been asked a hundred times but here goes.

Im adding some circuits (shower etc)to a house which currently has a non RCD board. I've also got to add a few sockets to existing ring (currently non RCD) so I plan on putting a whole new consumer unit in to cover the existing circuits too.

Do I issue a full Cert as with a newbuild or an EICR bearing in mind I cannot prove existing circuits meet wiring requirements to bs7671.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as i'm fairly new to the domestic side of things despite being in the industry many years.

you are adding new circuits so in the box on the right where is asks for new, addition or alteration then you would tick new...

but dont forget that you are also altering an existing installation (board change)...so you would also be ticking the alterations box...

this is backed up with the extent of works carried out bit..

When you complete your EIC your "description" field is what you say it covers, so for what you describe it should say:

Replacement fuseboard, install equipotential bonding the incoming water and gas and add new circuit(s) for shower and ....

An EICR is NOT acceptable for a fuseboard change YOU do.

and its notifiable too

Absolutely correct but I went to do an EICR for a guy who had a fall-out with his "electrician" post a CCU change. To cut a long story short he wasnt a Part 'P' "electrican" and the local council advised him to get an EICR completed instead! Not my concern, I just did the EICR (which was satis) collected money and left. But thats the advice from the council, gob smacking! Opens up a whole new avenue for how to potentially do a CCU change and not report it ........

Well, the client may save ÂŁ50 but getting a cowboy in but I'd charge far more than ÂŁ50 to do the EICR so the customer pays more in the long run.

Ours isn't to wonder why this happens, but educate people as to why Part P needs to be followed...
