What do i need to become an electrician?

Hi,

I wanted to know exactly what qualifications I need to become an electrician that is allowed to do maintenance and inspections.
I used to be an electrician in a foreign country but I can't use any of those qualifications in this country.
What courses do I need to do and do I have to do them in any specific order?

depending on what qualifications ( foreign or not) , as a first step i would go for 2382, the 17th ed. regs. then if you intend to do domestic work, consider joining one of the part p scam organisations, nicnic, elecsa or naffit.

You will also need a brain which you probably do have already, welcome to the forum by the way friend, we are the only real skilled trade without doubt anyone can hang a door or plaster a wall with a months experience.

I was looking into the 2382 course.
If I do this course will I be qualified to inspect and install electrical equipment?
And also, what is a 16th edition and do I need it in order to do the 17th edition course?

16th was the previous version of the regs. you don't need it. in fact you can't do it since 2008. with 17th, you can do all inspections provided that you are competent. however the 2391 , now split into 2, can't just think of the numbers, would be a good asset. for domestic work only, you need to join a scam, as my previous post said.
