I get the safety aspect ...But using likes of gaffer tape etc etc when I want the lid open but not remove cover etc drives me mad !
 
I think I posted on here a while ago as a “guess what this is?” question with photo.
Plastic, with a magnet in it, and marked “BG”

It was exactly that… a magnet to hold the lid open, and it was shaped to the same contour as the lid
