It's a switched probe which allows you to trigger the MFT remotely to capture the measurement. This allows the user to focus the probes without having to take one hand away to trigger the meter. Most of the major manufacturers have a similar system for their MFTs, often with less pretentious titles. The neatest and simplest implementation so far IMO is the Fluke version on their 165x series MFTs. The worst version is probably the Megger SPL1000 Illuminated switched Probe which is bulky because it is powered by an internal battery, has interchangeable tips that are flimsy and easily lost. The illumination provided by the unfocused LED is poor.
