In these tough times what is the most effective tool you have fashioned from something else and now you couldn't be without??

For example to remove the cable from a ballast in a light fitting I've tried a number of things from wire to grinding down a terminal screwdriver - all ok but I'm now using a paperclip and it beats them hands down!!

Not the best example I agree but you get the idea.

simplest tool i've ever had was an apprentice.

Yeah mine was simple.... 2nd year apprentice (2330 level 2 qualified) didn't know how to measure trunking.... Hacked his way through 18 mtrs for a simple 3 mtrs run... and it took him 2 days!! He left soon after this

coat hanger. Got a mangled one in the van, cost NOTHING but saved my b!tt so many times. priceless and free at the same time. It sits next to the thermal imager and multifunction tester because it's up there .....

The ultimate change of use tool is the drain hole cleaner
Lob off the spring end, and the best and most effective fishing wire that ever existed

Give me one in my hand, and I'll fish that cable through an hole that maid Marion would be proud of

targetting :)

A full length of plastic conduit for fishing cables along straight runs.
Or 2 bits of plastic conduit for holding trunking at the right height while you fix it to the wall.
