What is this box in my house

I have a box in my bedroom, it's next to the mains which leads outside, u side there are green grounding wires, basically green wires, and there's a big metal plate. I keep getting shocks in my bedroom

Thanks Tim, and ofcourse I've called a expert. Just waiting. But like I said I'm no expert, so from what I've read it seems dogey.

So when you touch the plasterboard wall you are getting a shock? All walls or just in one room? Are there any sockets or switches nearby?

Well it's probably a bell of some purpose. It may not actually be too relevant exactly what it is or may have done once.

In general you could be getting shocks for a number of reasons, including:
-being statically charged and discharging yourself by touching something that is earthed
-touching something that has low resistance that is in contact with something that is live.
-touching something that is directly live.
-a serious supply fault raising earthed things to live potential

And as we've said several times (and you've acknowledged) it needs looking at.
