Afternoon all...

The customer has a number of small green lights in the ceiling that are always on. This is a bed and breakfast/hotel.

I had assumed they were emergency lights, although the only emergency lights I have come across before are ones that only come on when there is a power cut. These are much smaller and on all the time.

One of them has started flashing intermittently a white light.

What is the purpose of these lights and why is one of them flashing? Is it a battery problem, although they look so tiny do they have a battery? Does it mean an LED failure?

2 photos below showing it as it should be, i.e a green light and also a picture of the white light (when flashing). Plus a video.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Emergency lights.
Green is indicating mains on and charging, if it's going white it's probably failing.
Battery in the ceiling.
Very common for a few years in conmmercial buildings.
I've got one above my front door,

Normal state, Green on and charging, hard to see in daylight

Thanks for that Snowhead. Really useful.

Although I agree with the em light assumption….

Was there not fire systems that had a visual light connected to detectors in attics and voids etc?
That would be a remote indicator which illuminates upon activation of an automatic fire detector, the indicator being red. That without a doubt is a micro emergency downlight.
