Came across this the other day (not what I was working on btw) and I don't know what its used for. I'm thinking its used to monitor phase sequence or something to do with sensitive equipment probably lighting.

Those CT's are poorly installed as well. Laying them on top of each other will negatively affect the accuracy. Also I don't like seeing CT's unsecured. It's not so much an issue with small supplies but with commercial/industrial installations there can be very large mechanical forces involved, especially under fault conditions, that would cause the CT's to be propelled in unexpected directions. At worst these forces can be strong enough to cause the CT's to disintegrate if they're not adequately anchored, at best the secondary wiring can be damaged or disconnected which can cause overheating.

Ukmeterman, Tony, Marvo and Mogga. Thanks for explaining the dangers of CTs, I think I will do a bit of research on this monitoring device as I've only got the theory in my head and no practical experience of the. I'll ask a few local com/inds sparks to take me along next time their working on one.

After all its only a few wires, what is the worst that could happen? :)

Disconnect a CT while the primary is still live and you may find out .....The hard way!! lol!!!

I would never touch any piece of equipment that I don't know about. This is beyond my level of knowledge but by asking members like yourselves i/we can learn, research and increase our understanding of the industry although we may never use it.

I may ask Lenny for some HND material on CTs, sounds interesting.
