Hi team.

I'm coming up to the end of my level 3 2365, and the plan is to go out and work with some local electricians doing domestic, industrial, in fact a bit of everything. Living out in the sticks I don't think there is another way. But rather than borrowing kit and just using it, I want to get to know the kit and the jobs they do.
So, can you recommend for me please a Multi Functional Tester, that can handle everything that would be expected of an electrician to cover all areas?

I fully appreciate that one bit of kit might not cover all the bases that are required.

I plan on buying something second hand at first, until I am comfortable, then investing in decent kit.

Many Thanks

Dan

a member was selling a megger the other day. think it's also on ebay.

I appreciate the heads up, but I'm really after the real world usage recommendations at the moment, I.e. which MFT has the better button layout, which has built in kit that's not needed so is a waste of money, which is the most user friendly etc etc.
Don't take the above questions literary, I know some out there have a habit of only answering the specific questions asked.
I want your experienced advice please.

Knowing all thay you guys know, but you had no kit,
What would you go out and buy to do the job

I have used a Metrel MI3000 for nearly 8 years and it never let me down. Until a few weeks ago when it let me down. I replaced it with another MI3000.
Great bit of kit for a starter. Feature rich and easy to use.

I have also used the MI3000, up until my brother sold it so he could buy some cocaine.
I now have an MI3125 BT because it will test A, AC and B type RCDs. (Won’t be lending it to my brother.)

Managed to get my grubby mitts on a Megger 1731 that I can play/practice with through my L2/3 2365 and beyond, so far I'm liking it
best choice. only thing about Megger is the box is crap.mine goes in an aluminium ( yanks, note the correct spelling) camera case. plenty of room for leads etc.

Many of our class done the same we were half way through our level 2 bought our own testers and set up our own test rigs at home to practice on.
Its a must IMHO and a blessing after being cramped in college workshop bays where you cant hardly move in and of course the dodgy equipment which they supply you with.
