Hi All.
I am a newbie, so please excuse me if I have placed this question in the wrong section. I passed my pat testing course 2 weeks ago and I am looking to purchase a second hand pat tester, I will be testing the usual office equipment, Photo Copier, Printer, Electric Fire, Radio, Kettle and PC's. I have looked around and I was told by a guy at an electrical firm, that the best tester for me would be the Seaward 100, can anybody confirm this would be the best tester for what I want.

Thank You

All hand-held battery powered testers have a major issue for the professional PAT in that they are unable to do hard earth bond or run tests. Unless you are only testing IT equipment I personally would not waste my hard earned cash on a battery powered hand held PAT.

Note all of the recommended testers listed below do hard earth bond tests, but some do not do run tests, if this is important to you please check the specifications:
From Seaward the Supernova (heavy, but my personal favourite PAT) or a Europa (less rugged, but lighter) are the best choices.
From Metrel the BetaPAT and OmegaPAT are good choices.
From Fluke the 6500 is a good choice.
From Martindale the EPAT2100 or MPATPLUS are good choices.
From Kewtech the KT71, KT76 and KT77 are good choices

MarkieSparkie. Thank you very much for your list, at least I now have a direction in what to look at, previously I was swamped with pat testers, and most of them were either old, U/S or just people trying to make a quick killing on a crap machine. Thanks Again.

Hi Tankie,

I see you are located in York - if you fancy a 45 minute trip on the A64 to our office in Leeds, we can demonstrate and let you have a play with the majority of the PAT testers that MarkieSparkie has helpfully advised you of.

If you should be interested, please PM us with a time that is suitable and we'll make sure that somebody is free to help you out. As we are a forum sponsor, we can also offer you a 5% if you decide to purchase a new PAT tester.

Thanks, test-meter

Test Meter. Thank you for your kind offer, at the moment I will have to pass as I am now busy with track exams at work, but I will hold your offer and probably visit you sometime after the new year if that is ok. thank You.

I've used the fluke for another firm but quite involved to use. I got myself a kewtech kt71, a pretty basic bit of kit with simple turn the dial to what class equipment and press the button, green for pass red for fail with readings on the display, turn dial again for load test and same green red light result. Very easy to use

Personally it would annoy me having to use adaptors all the time. Can't you buy a proper UK one?
