Hi was just trying to seek some advice, I have applied to a course at my local college in Bury, Manchester and was wondering if someone could tell me what qualification I would gain from this course (If any at all)

here is the link to there online prospectus http://www.burycollege.ac.uk/sitefiles/files/FTProspectus11-12.pdf
it is on page 68

the course is called city and guilds Level 2 in electro technical technoligy. It does mention the 2330 but not sure if that is what you can do after it ?

If anyone has been on this course or one simular it would be great if you could offer me some advice?

thankyou

Welcome to the forum kris.

The C&G 2330 level 2 is an under pinning knowledge of electrical design, installing and regulations. It's a well worth course to take, did it myself and no regrets.

Without opening up a debate about what this qualification will enable you to do, I would class you as an electricians labourer/improver maybe an electrician for domestic work but you would need to get the 2391 inspecting and testing, but that is a long way away at the moment. Good luck.

Thankyou paul, my aim is to eventually get an apprenticeship and I was told if I complete this course then It would not only make me more employable as an apprentice but also It would take only 2 years of being an apprentice after I completed it, to gain my NVQ.

Thankyou for the quick reply.

After you do that you'd do the level 3, which would take another year and give you the technical certificate so you'd just have to do the practically-based NVQ3 to gain JIB electrician status.

At the end of this month you won't be able to enrol for the 2330 anymore and it will become the 2357 which will be similar - if you can't enrol for the 2330 level 3 the chances are your college will offer some assistance with the changeover - it would be a good idea to ask about that before parting with your hard earned.

I don't know about the apprenticeship part, you will have to look into that if an answer don't pop up on here, I'm sure someone will know. Doing the level 2 will certainly help. Is it the domestic side that you want to do?

Cheers for the advice NovusSparkus I had heard about that, luckily I can enrole on this course for free as I am 17 but will definetly ask about that, do you think this would be a mojor problem?

Yes Paul domestic is what my initial aim is, but would like to maybe move onto something else with experience and better knowledge off other roles. I would feel great just getting anything with the current economic climate. I do have an induction day in July but felt it may be neccesary to ask for some advice on here before then as it would be to late to change in July

thankyou

It could be, which is why it's best to check - you don't want to end up in the situation where you've done the level 2 but the same college don't do the level 3 (or equivalent) and other local colleges are all full up with people who have just done the level 2 with them.
The college I went to gave priority to continuing students' education with them so there were maybe 30 places in the first year, then only maybe 4 for the second year provided that many people dropped out, then for the 3rd year anyone new to the college took last priority after students coming from lvl2 and anyone doing retakes.
Oh yeah at my college the lvl2 took 2 years not 1, so like I say it's always best to stick with the same college if you can.
