Hi all,

I've just got off the phone to a different college to the one I'm currently enrolled in. I rang to ask for some advice and they were pretty helpful (I've arranged to meet one of the tutors next week to discuss further). The reason i rang a different college is because the one I'm currently enrolled in are'nt very helpful at all.

Ill get to the point because I'm sure someone on here will be able to shed some light in plain english hopefully.

Last year my previous employer (a PAT testing company) enrolled me at Ashley Down college - Bristol. On the Level 2, 2330 Installation course (day release). They did this because i made it clear to them that my goal is to become a fully qualified electrician.

The past year has gone really well and I've passed all exams with a credit.

At the moment I'm planning on going back to college in September to continue with my second year of my level 2, and then on to a 3rd year (on site) for my level 3.

At the moment I'm struggling to find a placement with a company so im working at B&Q part time to bring in some money. I've written to over 100+ companies in my local area but no luck.

I know i can carry on this year without being on site, but know i have to be on site by this time next year.

As far as i'm aware once i've done these next 2 years i will be fully qualified and be able to repair/install, inspect and test, and sign off any work done etc. (the plan is to go self employed after a year or 2 with a company gaining the experience needed of course)

Am i right in thinking this, or are there other courses i need to in the mean time etc?

Also are there any other ways to go about this?

A chap i use to work with has just done his level 2, and is working on a "competent person scheme". Repairing and installing in domestic properties. Can anyone shed any light on that at all?

To cut a long story short, i just want to be working as an electrician, and in the mean time be gaining as many qualifications needed.

I know its a long read, just getting a bit frustrated with it all, as its the only thing i want to do with my life.

Any words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Thanks very much for your reply.

Ive had a read through it, and like you said sounds like i should just stick out this next year, and hope that i can get myself a placement for my level 3.

Really appreciate it, thanks :)
