Situation: You have just finished doing some electrical work that requires a EIC. You complete all tests ok, but when you test the RCD, It fails. You tell the customer that there is a problem with the RCD, and it needs replacing. Question; If the customer will not pay for a new rcd, what should you do? You cant issue the certificate, and your work does not comply without the rcd working ? If someone used your non certified circuit (obviously without your permission) what would the legal situation be ?
By the way, this has/is not happening to me, its just a scenario I dreamed up today when I was testing an rcd

as you should have tested the rcd before undertaking the work and allowed for it in your quote, bite the bullet and replace it. for the sake of ÂŁ20 it's not worth upsetting the client.

unles your customer is the easy going sort doesn't object to paying a bit extra. i usually cover myself by making it clear that any additional work on top of the quote will be at additional cost ( but usually do it at a cut rate to keep the client happy

Agree with Telectrix, and its a lesson learned for you. If you are like me, you will only make a mistake once if it hurts your pocket.

Cheers........Howard
