I did a City and guild L3 course at a local college a couple of years ago. I completed the course but didn’t progress further.
The year I went was the first year of a new venture for the college called it's 'construction academy'. There was a total lack of funding and the whole thing was a bit of a shambles.
Classes would often be sent home due to a lack of equipment. 2 tutors left during the course of the year leaving an overlap where there was no tutor for several weeks. Even when there was they would often not turn up. The students wouldn’t be told this before hand and we would make a wasted journey.
The upshot of this was that I never felt that I should have passed the course. I don't feel I gained enough knowledge from the level 2 to progress onto level 3. The practical exams where a joke, they didn’t fall short of cheating. I don't think anyone actually failed. Tutors where also present in the online exam’s and give hints and help!
So now I am in a position where I would like to continue with my training but I don't know what to do. I really don’t want to have to redo the whole Level 2. I am prepared to put the time in going back over the level 2 stuff but there is only so much I can do on my own as I didn’t really learn some bits of it in the first place.
Any advice on where to go next with this would be much appreciated.
Cheers.
