What to do?

hello guys, new to this forum. i recently purchased a 9kw electric chips fryer. and it came with a standard 3pin plug. can i just plug it into a normal electric socket. or i hav to install a new socket, mcb and a 10mm cable cable from the consumer unit?

I assume by standard 3pin plug you mean a 13A UK plug, which can handle a max of 3kw, so plugging in a 9kw appliance would not be good!

Who's selling 9kw appliances with 13A plugs on?!?!

9KW is the best part of 40A @ 230V, are you sure it came with a standard 1363 plug on it???

sorry it's 6kw! from my local 2nd hand shop. it has quite a big cable but with a plug on it.:rolleyes4:

Still far too much for a 13A fused 1363.

This appliance will require a dedicated radial circuit to function correctly.

I'd get a spark to have a look and advise accordingly.

Get it pat tested....how do you know if earth leakege is high? If put on an RCD protected circuit...may be enough to tip it over the edge...(the RCD that is)...

even a 2.5mm cable would be hard pushed on that load. needs a dedicated 32A circuit. 4mm radial.

the twin vallentine has 2no elements I think they are 2.9kw each last one I saw had 2.5mm flex on each with commando plugs

Has somebody changed the comando to a household plug so they can sell it in a 2nd hand shop? You must go through a lot of chips .
