sparkz

I went to see my mate today. His a chippy and working in a house not far from where i live. The owner wanted some electrical work done . I gave him a quote and mentioned what ill be doing e.g runring new circuits from the mainsboard. But he decided to use another electrician.

Cut the long story short . The electrician has wired 37 spot lights on downstairs circuit. The house aint that big just the usual 3 bed terrace. I had a gander of what he did. I saw a 2.5 cable go into a juction box and out that jb a 1.5mm t&e feeding the spot lights! the 2.5 twin is off the existing lighting circuit but the rest of the downstairs lights are wired in 1.5mm. Also the spot lighs are all 240v. I checked the board and there are only 4 circuits up/downstairs lights and up/downstairs ring. What the hell has he done.

Got some pics to share. The guy claims his a sparky but most locals know his the biggest cowboy around. He does allot of local work tiling, kitchen fitting, plumbing even GAS. I cant stop laughing at that temp light off that spot light cable.

The cables have not been clipped or tucked away just left hanging.

I showed him few pics of my work and he said pay me extra ill make it neat. He then started slagging my work off because he fitted the kitchen in the same house i re wired. I just dont understand why people use this guy.

Its a shame theres so many customers still out there that will accept this kind of work and attitude of a "cowboy" tradesman, Some people are happy to pay cheap and get a job thrown in any how, aslong as it works then the customer sometimes see's that as good enough.. shame on them

As said many times there is not enough advertising about the Part P schemes and the importance of using a registered electricain.

get this guy on rogue traders!!

As for shopping him
It wouldn't surprise me if he is a defined scope tiler plumber kitchen fitter or such and that he may very well be registered, just increasing his scope of work that seems to be the norm

The idiots who dreamed up this part p should see this sort of evidence of installation work going on during the reign of the squeaky clean part p they introduced
Shame on them and these rouges

Just to highlight dont forget Joe Public he she is so price wary and they are as much to blame as the cowboy they hire they basically get what they pay for yes I agree that the majority of guys on this forum are only trying to do a fair days work for a fair days pay but Joe public is another animal and its ironic that they hassle you and tell you that "electricia" A can do it a lot cheaper than you and its no wonder you dont get work because you take the stance that you will not cut corners or comprimise on safety.

Funny thing is that they get realy Peeeed off because they phone youl 3 months later asking you to sort it out then give you dogs abuse becasuse you say "sorry I will have to pass on this one" as I would do frequantly in the past when I did alarm systems. So best thing to do is taken the moral high ground and accept that these things wil happen if not then Joe public will expect you to fix the mess for buttons and he will vent his anger out on you and then tar you with the same brush as Jessie james who did the job and I should know because I tried to be the nice guy and ended up getting a heap of pain for my efforts

Because he is cheap?

Ian dont let this guy pull your chain remember count to ten then walk away why ? because the more this guys slags you off the more insicure he gets he is only trying to re-enforce his own deluded confidence and I hear what you say it is unfair that clowns like this appear to get away with sub standard work where guys like you are trying to do the right thing trust me put it down to these things happen and no matter how bad it gets dont get dragged into a slagging match just tell the customer its your decision on who you use.

One guy managed to get the women next door who I put an alarm in the year before to call me out for her "crap" system so he could get me and say "well your here anyway so have a quick look at my system" that was alarming twice a week. Well I declined got dogs abuse and it cost me time and money to reassure my customer that her system was tickity boo. When I said why dont you get the guy who installed your system back to sort it out he went off on one saying he could not get a hold of him.
So I said well my original quote still stands he called me a screwbal as he said I am not paying twice.

Fair enough I said
