bedroom containing a shower cubicle, RCD protected double socket outlet outside zone 2 of shower but within 3M of zone 1

C3?

Sitting here reviewing the new ESC Electrical installation condition reporting: Best Practice Guide Issue 3, on page 13:

C2 - "socket outlets other than SELV or shaver sockets located less than 3m horizontally from the boundary of zone 1 in a location containing a bath or shower"

Yes C2 from me as well ... special location unambiguous. The only excuse I think of is if it was installed <1991 under the 15th edition socket outlets had to be =>2.5m from the shower cubicle. If this was the case the extra 0.5m might make all the difference, but I don't expect that your client going have that much luck.

i thought it maybe!

its a right awkward situation iv got here, in a bedsit, and the bedroom has a mini kitchenette and at the end of the work top is a shower cubicle!!!, there is two double sockets within zone 2 of the shower on the kitchen work top which i said have to go, there is one more boarderline 2.75m from shower zone 1, to be honest i think it would be easier to just tell them the showers gotta go instead.
this has all been installed within 5 or so years, i asked where the certs were,
reply....the electrician said they in the post....never turned up!

all i can think of otherwise is to put the kettle and microwave on FCU's and loose all the sockets

They are all C2 even the 2.75 m socket outlet !

I would just issue the EICR with your observations.

I would also issue a covering letter explaining what could be done to make the premises satisfactory and safe!

I would imagine this will be rented accomadation!

A picture would be helpful as Im sure you would receive some helpful advice from other members!

i have a meeting with the owner to discuss the remedial work needed on thursday, i will get some pics then, he has a lot of properties and wants me to go through them one at a time and end up with a satifactory report for each after any remedial works, most have been ok so far just some RCD issues

this report was goin fine until i walked into one of the last bedsits in the building and found the shower/kitchen set up

I thought that too, but I didn’t want to upset the old fella by telling him 😛

It was purely an off the top of my head example, but I'd say - accessible live parts C1 - inaccessible live parts C2 - 10 feet up in a locked room...
